Zöbing. Certified sustainable (Nachhaltig Austria) and organic (EU BIO). Smells like wet stone and candied lemon peel. Mouth-watering, zesty freshness. Truly verdant and cool, with a fine herbaceousness of lemon balm and wild mint. Long, drying, herbal finish. Closed and citrusy on the palate at this point, but I have little doubt it will find its way there. (PS)

The 2021 Zöbing Riesling Ried Heiligenstein 1ÖTW opens with a very pure but intense and concentrated, very clear and aromatic Riesling aroma intertwined with notes of crushed rocks and salt. Fine, pure, fresh and concentrated, this is a picture-book Heiligenstein on the nose! Lush and intense on the palate, this is a concentrated, full-bodied and complex Riesling with lots of salt and tension and well-dosed power. This is surely not a wine for beginners of master's degrees but for PhDs. There's great intensity, purity and salinity on the long and, in a positive way, citric finish. A gorgeous Heiligenstein indeed and probably the finest I have had from Sandra and Hannes Hirsch so far. Everything that's happening here is happening on the finish and aftertaste, when most wine lovers have already made their vote. 13% stated alcohol. Screw-cap closure. Tasted in October 2022.

Permian sandstone. Screwcap. Rich white-stone-fruit aromas in a refreshing blend of juice and zest. Somewhat more opulent than the graceful Gaisberg, with a stony backbone and finely textured, chiffon-thin layers of juice on the palate. Exceptionally lingering, spicy and long. (PS)
