A sleeper of the vintage, the 2010 Crozes-Hermitage Domaine des Lises is an outstanding, as well as reasonably priced, effort exhibiting plenty of dense black currant fruit, licorice, roasted herb, new saddle leather and spice box characteristics. Medium to full-bodied and ripe with good acidity as well as lingering, light tannins, it should drink nicely for a decade. The son of Alain Graillot, Maxime Graillot has his own operation with Crozes-Hermitage representing the bulk of his 2,500-case production. The contrast between the 2010 and 2011 St.-Joseph Equis is interesting. The 2011 vintage in St.-Joseph appears to be as good as, perhaps even better than, the 2010. Vivid purple. Intense dark berry aromas show impressive depth and spiciness. Juicy, tightly focused blackberry and bitter cherry flavors gain sweetness and flesh with air, along with a suave floral quality. Violet and star anise notes linger on the very long, sweet, well-focused finish.
Bottled. Light and firm. Rather polished. No great intensity. Dry finish. Sinewy. (JR)
Graillot believes 2010 is a more classic vintage than the more opulent 2009, and the 2010 Crozes-Hermitage exhibits a dense ruby/purple color along with good acidity, minerality and notes of black cherries, black currants, earth, spice and pepper. It should drink well for 3-5 years. (Not yet released) Importer: Europvin, www.europvin.com
