Note di degustazione
Coming from further north outside of the Willamette Valley, the 2022 Syrah The Rocks District Of Milton Freewater is perfumed and floral, with notes of pepper oil, plum, and minty herbs. Full-bodied, it has a supple, ripe texture, plush tannins, and a saturating, ripe feel, with an elegant frame and a long finish. It’s an exceptional Syrah with at least a decade ahead of it. Drink 2026-2040.

The 2022 Syrah comes from the River Rock and Rockbar Vineyards in the Rocks District. It was fermented with 50% whole clusters and matured for 12 months. It has savory aromas of blackcurrants, cherries and plums, olive tapenade, bitter chocolate and mint. The full-bodied palate is pleasantly restrained in terms of ripeness and extraction. It has pure flavors, soft, chalky tannins, refreshing acidity and a long, elegant finish. It’s much more drinkable than some of the more extracted, monolithic styles from the Rocks District.
Coming from Washington, the 2022 Syrah The Rocks is an expressive and fantastic mix of savory and fruity. Notes of gravelly earth, pepper, pure black raspberry, fresh plum, and wildflowers are followed by a medium-bodied red with well-defined, fine tannins, a fresh feel, and an elegant, savory finish. This one needs more time to see how far it can go, as it’s very young in its feel now. Drink 2025-2035.
Deep purple. Liquorice and charcuterie with dense black fruit and velvety tannin. Lightly chocolatey on the finish. This has the gentlest nudge of the grey-salt and tang character I associate with the Rocks District. (SCJ)
