The 2011 Mount Pleasant Elizabeth Semillon shows off aromas of freshly squeezed lemons, under-ripe tangerines and pomelo with hints of lime blossoms and green apple peel. Light-bodied, dry and very crisp, it is very fine in the mouth and shows great vibrancy through a long, clean finish. Drink it 2015 to 2023+. 5% of the fruit is from WA. pH 3.16, TA 6.6 g/l. Cold fermented with selected yeast over three weeks. Subtle but inviting nose. Leafy and mineral – delicately so. Very clean and crisp and some green pea on the palate. Bright and long. Intense limey aftertaste. Light weight on the palate. Persistent if not yet expressive. That leafiness did lead me to WA though the rest of the style, including the low alcohol, should have taken me straight to the Hunter. (JH)
