Deep, brilliant ruby. Cherry and blueberry aromas are complemented by suggestions of pungent flowers and cracked pepper. Offers sappy bitter cherry and dark berry flavors, along with building spice and salty olive notes. Closes gently chewy and focused, with resonating blue fruit character and subtly gripping tannins. Faury's 2019 Saint Joseph comes from his 15 parcels in Chavanay and includes 70% whole clusters, a bit more than usual. Matured in a mix of foudres and demi-muids, it boasts enthralling aromas of violets, rose petals, black tea leaves and crushed peppercorns, all sprinkled liberally over a base of black olives and red berries. Medium to full-bodied, it's an outstanding effort, complex, silky and long on the finish.
60% Marsanne, 40% Roussanne. Aged on fine lees, no new oak. Tank sample. Tasted blind. Very creamy nose – honeyed apple. Seems slightly dilute on the palate with good texture, however. Not hugely complex or rich – surprising given the vintage. (AC)
Ripe blue fruits, candied flowers and a hint of smokiness on the perfumed nose. Juicy dark berry and bitter cherry flavors take on a candied violet note and a hint of cracked pepper with air. Dusty tannins build slowly on a long, penetrating finish that echoes the floral and smoke notes. 25% whole clusters.
