Punteggio 91/100 · Da bere 2018-2022, Josh Raynolds, Aug 2016

Bright violet. Mineral-accented red and dark berry scents are complicated by suggestions of floral pastilles and spicecake. Sappy and structured, offering intense black raspberry and violet flavors given spine and energy by juicy acidity. Slow-building tannins shape the finish, which clings with strong tenacity and a resonating floral quality.

67-year-old vines on pink granite, and minimal sulphur additions. Light healthy cherry red. Strong 'mineral' nose, light weight and notable acidity. This is surely for fairly early drinking? Very pretty wine that grows towards the end of the tasting experience. Quintessential Beaujolais for the relatively short term. (JR)

The 2014 Fleurie Les Roches comes from 50-year-old vines and is partially aged in neutral oak, the rest in concrete and cask. It has an attractive dark cherry and raspberry coulis-scented bouquet that blossoms in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, well-judged acidity, and a brisk, piquant finish that needs to develop more persistence in bottle. Therefore I would afford this another 12 months.
