The2008 Vosne-Romanée Les Chaumes hovers on the palate with a strikingly beautiful expression of subtle, fragrant fruit. The wine acquires darker, burnished tones in the glass. Jérôme Chezeaux says the Chaumes has only begun to drink well within the last month or so. If that is the case, this wine has a very bright future. I loved it.

Jerome Chezeaux farms a total of 11.2 hectares of vineyards, of which 6.6 are estate owned. The fruit is 100% destemmed. Chezeaux favors fairly lengthy macerations. New oak levels are on the low side. As is the case at many estates, the 2009s have a slight upper hand in many of the entry and mid-level wines, while at the high end the 2008s are superb. Either way, these are some of the most beautiful, classically built wines I tasted on my trip. Patience is required, though, as these are sturdy wines that need bottle age. Informazioni sul produttore

This Gevrey-Chambertin property was founded in 1982 but the vines were leased to other producers. As of 2021, that’s all changed, with Domaine Hudelot-Noëllat’s Charles van Canneyt and his wife Anne-Sophie having purchased the property. This is undoubtedly an address to watch.
