Punteggio 88/100 · Da bere 2020-2026, Anthony Mueller, Wine Advocate, May 2020

Blended with 18% Cabernet Sauvignon and 6% Cabernet Franc, the 2016 Merlot Ferguson & Seven Hills Vineyards begins with a tart core of fruits and shows a shy wine. After some swirling, a dusty floral expression walks out of the glass. Medium to full-bodied, the palate remains tart before sliding across the mid-palate, ending with a balance and lingering finish. This may take some time to come around. 1,170 cases produced.

Slightly more expensive, the 2016 Merlot Walla Walla Valley is all estate fruit and made from 76% Merlot, 18% Cabernet Franc, and the rest Cabernet Sauvignon, brought up in 40% new oak. Its deep ruby/purple color is followed by notes of cassis, leafy herbs, damp earth, and graphite. Balanced, medium to full-bodied, seamless, and beautifully put together, it's a terrific, high-class Merlot to drink over the coming 7-8 years as well.

A stunning merlot that proves what this grape is capable of in Washington State! Ravishing blueberry nose with delicate, minty freshness, then a medium-to full-bodied palate, on which velvety tannins are married to bright acidity and minerality that drives the long, pure finish. Drink or hold.
