The 1996 Barolo Riserva Villero needs quite a bit of air to start showing everything it has. With time, though, the aromatics show tremendous depth and intensity. Hints of smoke, tobacco, leather and the deep, balsamic nuances that are so typical of this site start appear over time. A wine of balance, freshness and intensity, the 1996 Barolo Riserva Villero is simply stellar.

The 1996 Barolo Villero Riserva reveals spicy oak intermixed with copious quantities of jammy cherries, garrigue, smoke, and earth. Sweet, deep, and full-bodied, with classic rose petal and tar-like flavors, this bold, masculine, powerful Barolo possesses plenty of tannin. It should age easily for two decades. The estate's 1996 Barolo Riserva Villero is outstanding. Layers of dark fruit, sweet spices, menthol and crushed rocks saturated the palate as this powerful, brooding wine shows off its pedigree. This intense Barolo makes a compelling case for the glories of the 1996 harvest. Flowers, minerals and a host of other dark, balsamic aromas and flavors add complexity on the brooding, dense finish.
