Punteggio 95/100 · Da bere 2024-2038, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Jan 2022

The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate is a sumptuous Howell Mountain Cabernet. It offers up an exciting mélange of dark red/purplish fruit, rose petal, spice, game, mint and blood orange. More than anything else, the Estate Cabernet delivers plenty of Howell Mountain richness, with nicely softened tannins that make it a total pleasure to taste.

Starting with the base 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon, which is 84% Cabernet Sauvignon and 16% Petit Verdot, it has a wonderful Cabernet nose of blackcurrants, tobacco, chocolate, cedar, and a touch of earth. Also gorgeous on the palate, it's full-bodied and has a ripe, plush, sexy texture, no hard edges, integrated oak, and a great finish. I'd be thrilled to drink bottles any time over the coming 10-15 years.

The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate is a total knock-out. Winemaker Danielle Cyrot has done a tremendous job taming the Howell Mountain tannins. There is still plenty of power and structure, but all the elements are so well balanced here. Inky dark red fruit, iron, new leather, blood orange, spice, a kiss of new French oak and game build in an opulent, brooding Cabernet loaded with personality.

Composed of 87% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Malbec, 5% Merlot and 2% Petit Verdot, the 2018 Cade Estate Cabernet Sauvignon has a deep garnet-purple color, delivering expressive scents of warm cassis, baked black cherries, plum preserves and raisin cake with touches of licorice, woodsmoke and dried Provence herbs. Full-bodied, the palate has a not unpleasant chewiness to the texture and bold freshness supporting the black fruit preserves, finishing on an earthy/smoky note.
