The 2006 Pinot Bianco Riserva Vorberg is a touch rounder and creamier than the 2007, with hints of smoke and flint that add complexity to the fruit. Here, too, the finish is marvelous for its texture, depth and sheer class.

Here, too, the finish is marvelous for its texture, depth and sheer class. Anticipated maturity: 2011-2018. The most impressive wines I tasted this year from Alto Adige came from Cantina di Terlano. The 2006 Sauvignon Winkl reveals tomato leaf and mint notes in a full-bodied, yet finely-sculpted expression of Sauvignon from Alto Adige. An underlying note of minerality gives this fat, generous wine a lovely sense of balance. It is a terrific effort at this level.
