There appears to be more Mourvedre in the 2001 Cotes du Rhone-Villages Les Roches Rondes. It exhibits a saturated purple color as well good density and richness, a monolithic character, but tremendous concentration as well as intensity, and a long, heady finish. It should merit an outstanding score with another 1-2 years of bottle age. It will last for a decade. Importers: David Hinkle, North Berkeley Imports, Berkeley, CA; tel. Bright red-ruby. Aromas of black plum, black cherry, leather and spices. Juicy, intensely flavored and structured; a youthfully high-pitched wine that's distinctly backward today, even a bit unforgiving. But this has remarkable clarity of flavor and finesse for Cotes du Rhone. Finishes with big tongue-dusting tannins and a mineral aspect. Will this become more pliant and complex with bottle aging?
