Punteggio 97/100 · Da bere 2022-2037, Erin Brooks, Wine Advocate, Sep 2021

The 2017 Patrimony is aging at a leisurely pace—it takes time in the glass to unfold to rich blackberry pie, roasted coffee, chargrill and a shimmery streak of graphite. The velvety palate is packed with sweet berry fruit and savory accents and finishes tightly wound. It's barely nudged in bottle this year and will continue to develop over the next 15+ years.

Dark, bright-rimmed purple. Powerful, highly expressive scents of cherry liqueur, cassis, fruitcake, vanilla and rose oil; pipe tobacco and smoky oak nuances add complexity. Deeply concentrated, oak-spiced dark berry preserve, cherry pie and mocha flavors stain the palate, and an undercurrent of juicy acidity conveys an impressively energetic quality. Plush, densely packed and extremely young, finishing with powerful, spicy thrust, youthfully chewy tannins and striking persistence.

Deep purple-colored, the tiny production 2017 Patrimony Cabernet Sauvignon is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon that spent 30 months in new French. This rocking wine has a huge nose of deep black fruits, new leather, unsmoked tobacco, exotic spices, and chocolate. Full-bodied and stunningly concentrated, with awesome tannins, a stacked mid-palate, and just a gorgeous finish, it's a magical wine and an incredible 2017. Bravo!

A wine that might just be the greatest pure Cabernet Sauvignon to come from the Paso Robles, ever, the 2017 Patrimony sports a saturated purple color as well as awesome black and blue fruits, notes of crushed violets, graphite, and a damp earth/rocky minerality that develops with time in the glass. Full-bodied, with a gorgeous core of sweet fruit, it stays balanced, elegant, and seamless on the palate, and despite its obvious size and richness, it’s beautifully balanced, has no hard edges, and stays pure, precise, and long. It’s a sensational barrel sample that’s going to flirt with perfection. From high up off Adelaida Road, the Daou brothers continue to make a massive lineup of stellar wines. The 2016s are incredibly strong across the board and make the most of this brilliant vintage. In 2017, they opted to wait until after the heatwaves and then do extensive sorting, and this paid off brilliantly and I suspect they’ve made the top Bordeaux blends in the vintage. As I’ve said in the past, these wine compete with the best of Napa Valley and are some of the leading Bordeaux blends from Paso Robles.
