FINE+RARE, Apr 2024

This is rich and dark in colour, offering a creaminess of oak (60% new) alongside bramble fruit and fresh blackcurrant leaf, giving a pleasing herbaceous edge to the nose. There is real depth to the fruit here, with a rich, plummy core. Classically built, with well-integrated tannins and 13% alcohol. Blend: 77% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot, 3% Petit Verdot

Red and black fruits, spicy wood, graphite, spring flowers, and sappy herbs all emerge from the 2023 Château Talbot, a juicy, perfumed, lively Saint-Julien that has medium-bodied richness, integrated acidity, and fine tannins. Based on 77% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot, and 3% Petit Verdot and aged 16 months in 60% new French oak, it has beautiful purity and is a classic Talbot that will round into form with 4-5 years of bottle age and drink brilliantly over the following 30 years or more. Drink 2030-2056.

The 2023 Talbot has a typical nose for the estate, with open-knit red berry fruit, wild hedgerow and fleeting blackcurrant aromas, iris flower emerging with time in the glass. Not powerful, but it conveys a sense of refinement. The palate is medium-bodied, with a succulent entry, pliant tannins, fresh and elegant in style. This is what Talbot does so well, almost a "less is more" Saint-Julien that lingers in the mouth and tempts you back for more. Guaranteed you will finish a bottle.

Smoky red and black fruits, leafy herbs, truffle, and some lively, background floral notes all emerge from the 2023 Château Talbot, a medium-bodied Saint-Julien that has a pure, elegant mouthfeel, ripe tannins, and the fresher yet balanced style of the vintage.
