Note di degustazione
Muted and monolithic, it displays a dark plum/garnet color, a touch of reduction, mulberry, dusty, loamy soil, tobacco leaf, sweet cherry and dark currant notes, and a clipped finish. While capable of lasting another 5-6 years, it is best drunk up. Do not expect anything compelling. Another challenging vintage in Napa Valley (the fourth year in a row with unusual conditions), 1983 was characterized by wet weather in March and April, again in August, and during the beginning of the harvest in September. There are just over 3,000 cases of the 1983 Insignia, a blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc from the same vineyards as the 1982. It achieved 13.6% alcohol.
