Burgundian notes of ripe cherries, mulberries, forest floor, leather, and minty herbs emerge from the 2019 Pinot Noir Center of Effort, a medium-bodied, elegant, nicely balanced, and lengthy Pinot Noir. Coming from the estate vineyard and aged in 40% new French oak, it will unquestionably evolve gracefully for at least 7-8 years. These are by and large outstanding wines from Edna Valley’s Center of Effort. The wines are made by Nathan Carlson, and they always play in the lighter, fresher end of the spectrum.

Full bottle 1,670 g – unnecessarily heavy. Ambient-yeast fermentation with manual punchdowns. Free-run juice drained to 40% new French oak for 19 months of é levage. Unfiltered. 511 cases made. Smells of raspberry and cherry fruit. The wine has a wonderful silkiness to it, with flavours of raspberry, cherry and just a hint of mocha. Excellent acidity with notes of citrus peel lingering in the finish. Manages to be rich but without heaviness, ripe but without being jammy. Just a touch of heat in the finish. (AY)
Lots of spiced red fruits, forest floor, spring flowers, and violet notes emerge from the 2019 Pinot Noir Andare, a pure, medium-bodied, incredibly elegant Pinot Noir with terrific balance, integrated acidity, and a great finish.
Shimmering red. Spice-accented raspberry and cherry aromas are complemented by woodsmoke, cola and floral notes. Silky and focused on the palate, offering appealingly sweet cherry cola, Chambord and floral pastille flavors that deepen with aeration. Fine-grained tannins add shape to a very long, spice-tinged finish that shows fine clarity and resonating florality. All de-stemmed fruit; 50% new French oak.
