A blend of 97% Merlot and 3% Cabernet Franc, the 2017 Grand Village, the fruit of a frosty vintage, displays a dense, racy bouquet with aromas of strawberries, plums, dark wild berries, pencil lead and flowers intertwined with spicy hints. Medium to full-bodied, fleshy and sappy, its enveloping core of vibrant fruit is underpinned by velvety tannins. Dense, long, and energetic, the finish is endless. Balanced and harmonious, it’s a great effort.

The 2017 Acte 9 is fabulous. Rich, dense and expansive, Acte 9 possesses terrific textural resonance and volume. Ripe red cherry/plum fruit, mint, tobacco and a whole range of mineral inflections race out of the glass in a vibrant, racy wine loaded with personality. I won't be surprised if the 2017 turns out even better than this note suggests. The 2017 Acte 9 emerges from a brutal year that took with it 90% of the production during the late April frost. All of the Cabernet Franc was lost, which means that Acte 9 is 100% Merlot. The 2017 is the last vintage of this wine under the Acte moniker.
The 2017 L’Acte 9 de G is the final vintage of this wine under this name. Frost forced it to be 100% Merlot from pure limestone soils. It has a perfumed bouquet with black cherries, iodine and light lavender aromas. Very fine definition here and quite intense. The palate is medium-bodied with a slightly sinewy opening A stone marine influence, seaweed and brine define the persistent finish. This will require three or four years in bottle just to soften its edges.
The 2017 Grand Village (Lafleur) comes from pure limestone soils and is a blend of 97% Merlot and 3% Bouchet (the highest percentage of Merlot they've used). It has a beautiful sense of minerality as well as lots of raspberry and red currants fruits as well as notes of loamy earth, dried flowers, and spice. Medium-bodied, elegant, and silky on the palate, with ripe tannins and a beautiful finish, it's well worth seeking out and will shine for over a decade.
