Note di degustazione
The 2018 Volnay Clos des Chênes 1er Cru has a very crisp and delineated bouquet with a mélange of red/blue fruit, chalk, flint and light hedgerow scents. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, fleshy on the entry and then firming up towards the finish. Good grip here, backward of course, but with the substance to suggest it will give 15-20 years of drinking pleasure.

The 2018 Volnay 1er Cru Clos des Chênes is a deep, powerful wine, opening in the glass with notes of cherries, wild berries, peonies and blood orange, with little hint of the tertiary complexity to come with bottle age. Medium to full-bodied, muscular and textural, this is a rich, velvety and beautifully integrated wine that concludes with a long and expansive finish.
The 2018 Volnay Clos des Chênes 1er Cru comes from one parcel divided into two parts, one with 80-year-old vines on limestone-clay soils and another with 20-year-old vines on hard marn soils. It offers ebullient red fruit on a nose of raspberry coulis and wild strawberry with touches of lavender and rose petal. The palate is very elegant and refined. The tannins feel slightly chalky, and here I would just like more substance to develop on the midpalate. Hopefully that will happen during the remainder of its élevage.
