The dry Kabinett from this cru is already fascinating in its purity and mineral thrill but the medium-dry, two starred 2013 Ürziger Würzgarten Riesling Auslese ** is the intensification of this and it is fascinating to learn how diverse the wines of this vintage can be. This again is very pure and refined on the nose displaying fragrant flowery aromas along with hints of rasped hazelnuts, sage and chamomile, but this all is just the perfume over the noble expression of fruit which is composed from ripe and cooked apples, ripe nectarines, pineapples and other yellow-fleshed fruits and an almost chalky but finally slate-like spiciness. The wine is intense and sensual on the palate, quite sweet but very well balanced by a certain tannin structure from the barrel in which it was fermented until it stopped naturally at 11% alcohol. Very elegant, this is a perfect amalgam of ripe fruit, minerals, tannins and extract. Very alluring already today this ambitious and complex Würzgarten should age for at least two decades.
