Punteggio 94/100 · Da bere 2025-2032, Jeb Dunnuck, Apr 2025

Such an interesting wine, the 2022 Mourvedre Old Vine Rodnick Farm is from 35-plus-year-old vines, a "Samsonite" clone of Mourvèdre that the producer 100% whole-cluster ferments expertly here. Light in color, the flavors lean into candied strawberry and orange peel, a fuzzy texture and exuberant lift of acidity complementing the soft tannin structure and spicy, gritty finish. Enjoy another 5-7 years.

The 2022 Mourvèdre Old Vine Rodnick Farm Vineyard is a refreshing expression of this unique pocket of California where Mourvèdre can draw textural parallels to Pinot Noir. It opens with a nose of blue fruits, pipe tobacco, dried herbs and oiled leather, leading to a spry yet deceptively rich palate and a persistent, calcareous finish. This is the only example of the varietal quite like it, and it should develop beautifully through the decade.

The 2022 Mourvèdre Old Vine Rodnick.farm Vineyard is yet another fantastic wine off this site. It aged for 11 months in neutral oak (550-liter and 300-liter). Bright, fruity and cheerful, it’s also notably measured and reined in with super-fine tannins. Aromas of black cherry, leather, cedar, pipe tobacco and mint bound from the glass, building intricacy with air as the 2022 intoxicates with its heady perfume. The finish is absolutely mouthwatering—my only complaint is the slightest poke of heat right on the close.
