The 2021 Protagonist is a blend of 87% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Petit Verdot, 5% Malbec and 2% Syrah. Matured for 20 months in 43% new oak, it’s scented of blackcurrant, mint chocolate, violet and aniseed. The full-bodied palate is ripe and concentrated with floral fruit and glossy new-oak spice. It’s structured by grainy tannins and rounded acidity and has a flavorful finish. 1,780 cases produced.

The 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Protagonist shows the class and style of this estate nicely, and at a slightly more attractive price compared to the two flagship releases. Perfumed red and black fruits, leafy herbs, spicy oak, and some cedar pencil notes all define the aromatics, and it hits the palate with a polished, medium to full-bodied, nicely balanced style that's already drinking well. It should evolve nicely over the coming 10-12 years at a minimum. The blend is 87% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Petit Verdot, 5% Malbec, and 2% Syrah aged 20 months in barrel.
