The 2021 Pinot Noir Basalt Block is scented of pomegranate and cranberry with nuances of aniseed, mushroom and earth. The medium-bodied palate is bursting with layers of spicy fruit. It’s structured by dusty tannins and mouthwatering acidity and has a long, latent finish. It will benefit from 3-5 years in the cellar.

This is potent, with a concentrated core of ripe red and blue berry fruit offset by stimulating acidity and sour citrus. The 2021 tapers off with gobs of youthful tension, further enhancing its core of grippy tannins, and yet the end note here is freshness. Give the Basalt Block time to fully come together—it will be worth the wait.
