Very pale straw. Pungent, positively smouldering nose. Absolutely no shortage of fruit (ripe vintage). Finishes dry after delivering a concentrated essence of Mosel Riesling. Very rich on the mid palate but far from a sweet wine. This was great with Nick's gravad lax. No hurry to drink this 14-year-old white! (JR)

Won a sommeliers’ award from Imbibe magazine in the UK. Very big and with more than a suggestion of a pickle. Spicy and off dry. Masses of extract. Not fine – a big bruiser of a wine – but it sure makes a point that there is more to fine German wine that the old classics. Just a tad hot on the end. (JR)
From vines of 40 to 60 years of age in the Niederberg-Helden vineyard. 95° – 105° Oechsle, RS 8.2 g/l, TA 7.5 g/l. Very dense and tingly. So meaty and dry on the nose it really is rather like white burgundy. Real richness on the front palate and then a great spread across it with some distinctive slightly astringency on the finish. I'd wait a little while before savouring this in all its glory. The alcohol in this is very well integrated. No heat on the finish. Delicious. Quite refined. Great balance. (JR)
