Punteggio 90/100 · Da bere 2024-2032, Erin Larkin, Wine Advocate, Feb 2024

The 2019 Larose is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, Merlot, Malbec and Cabernet Franc. Deeply colored in the glass, it expounds a dense, dark, brooding bouquet of resin, char, toasty oak, smoky peat, blackberry compote and licorice. In the mouth, there is a sticky/waxy texture to the tannins, alongside Christmas spice, iodine and blood, squid ink and steel wool. This is a mouthful of intensely gritty, gravelly, concentrated flavor. However, the finish drops off a little sooner than expected. This is a powerhouse wine, highly sought after, but a gently medicinal finish constricts the flow of flavor and detracts from the initial outlay of authoritative fruit. 14.2% alcohol, sealed under cork.

So much less herby than the 2021 – amazing vintage variation. Chewy texture, dry and savoury in style with plenty of crunchy acid. Follows the bordeaux model faithfully. (RH)

One of the best Larose releases in the wine’s history, this has a very attractive sense of depth, power and composure. The brand of refinement seen in the finest Bordeaux. Aromas of blackberry and blackcurrant, as well as plum and mulberry, are seasoned with oak spices, leaves and tobacco. The palate has such smoothly groomed tannins and concentrated, fresh, dark-toned berries. There’s a lot to like here. Drink or hold.
