Even better and named after the unique, purple clay that’s present in vineyard, the 2012 Cotes du Rhone Villages Visan Terre Pourpre (80% Grenache and 20% Mourvedre) exhibits impressive cassis, licorice, black raspberry and crushed stone-like minerality to go with a medium-bodied, balanced and elegantly-styled profile on the palate. Medium-bodied at present, I think it will gain a smidge more depth and richness once bottled and drink nicely for 7-8 years. These are all classy, beautifully made efforts that are worth seeking out.

Dark purple. A bit overripe on the nose. Sickly sweet blackberries. Just not appetising enough. I'm sure there's some lovely fruit buried here. But it's all a bit exaggerated. Very tough finish. (JR)
