Good medium red. Black cherry, menthol, pepper and herbs on the nose, with a slightly medicinal suggestion of cough syrup. Spicy, supple and fresh, with coolish flavors of black cherry, herbs and pepper. This medium-bodied wine was fermented with its stems, and ultimately comes across as a bit overripe/underripe in character. Finishes with dusty tannins. Misses out on the fleshiness of the best '03s. Like the Clos de la Roche, this seems leaner and less expansive than it appeared to be in the barrel a year ago.

Highly complex aromas of raspberry, rose petal, mocha, iron and pepper; shows a musky syrah-like character that's no doubt due to the inclusion of the stems. Aromatic and sweet in the mouth, with lovely clarity of flavor. Intriguing soil tones of flowers, spices and earth; distinctly wild. Finishes juicy and youthfully tight. Potel avers that of the grand crus he works with, Charmes-Chambertin, Romanee-Saint-Vivant and Bonnes-Mares are the most consistent to their respective terroirs year after year.
