Note di degustazione
Still in barrel, the 2021 Syrah Susan's Hill will be matured for 20 months in a second-use foudre. It's a touch coiled at this stage with some rubberiness that gives way to cassis and mint. The full-bodied palate has a powerful core of fruit framed by powdery tannins and refreshing acidity, and it has a long, latent finish. 130 cases will be made.

The 2021 Syrah Susan's Hill is a wine for readers who appreciate Syrah's more savory, structured side. Big, sweeping tannins wrap around a blackberry, espresso, gravel, lavender and spice core. Potent and quite tannic, the 2021 is going to need at least a few years to come into its own. This will always be a big wine though.
Lastly, the 2021 Syrah Susan's Hill all comes from a tiny, windswept parcel in the Pisoni Vineyard, in the southern region of the Santa Lucia Highlands. Only 20% destemmed and aged 22 months in foudre, this incredible Syrah reveals a saturated purple hue as well as a bloody, iron-laced bouquet of black and blue fruits, ground pepper, chalky minerality, and smoked game, with subtle hints of spring flowers and violets in the background. Deep, rich, full-bodied, and concentrated, it has remarkable purity, building tannins, and a great, great finish. This pure, world-class Syrah will benefit from a year or two of bottle age and keep for 10-15 years in cold cellars. It might be the finest vintage of this cuvée to date.
