Only the second Auslese I have tasted from this bigger vineyard that assembles several tiny Einzellagen, the 2016 Riesling Bernkasteler Badstube Auslese *** (Golden Capsule) shows a super intense but fine and smoky-tinged Riesling bouquet with coolish slate and citrus/grapefruit aromas. On the palate this is a super fine and generously fruity Riesling with incredible pineapple flavors, ripe and mineral acidity and even very fine tannins. This is gorgeous and voluptuous but, at the same time, very elegant and mineral in the aftertaste. Only 1,000 375-milliliter bottles were filled in December 2017. I tasted the wine at the domaine two times in March 2018.
