76% Zinfandel, 17% Petite Sirah, 7% Carignane. Amazingly deep crimson with a brick finish. Extremely rich, sweet and so lively and well balanced. Heady, fresh and rich with a tamarind sweet/salt character and a little dry savour on the finish. Gorgeous! (JR)

Very firm and tarry. Lots of alcohol and richness with the dry tannins well in retreat, though there are enough of them to sustain the wine for a pretty long life. (JR)
These never fail to impress and this was no exception. The 2001 Ridge Lytton Springs possesses beautiful dark fruit, plum and roast herb aromas that are backed up by earth, spice, cedar and dust notes. While showing ripe fruit, this is balanced and could easily pass for a southern Rhone. It's medium bodied and has a soft, mouth filling texture that carries into a nice finish with sweet fruit.
The 2001 Lytton Springs Proprietary Red, a blend of 76% Zinfandel, 17% Petite Sirah, and 7% Carignan (14.7% alcohol) is superb. I was knocked out by its multiple dimensions and combination of jammy briery raspberry and currant fruit intermingled with licorice, spice, and pepper. Its dense purple color is accompanied by a rich, full-bodied palate presentation, and a long, seamless finish. Enjoy this outrageously delicious Zinfandel over the next 5-6 years. Tel. (408) 867-3233
