Note di degustazione
The 2000 Riesling Smaragd Wachstum Bodenstein reveals some yellow in its color (most Wachau wines are quite clear in their youth) as well as sweet herbal tea aromas interspersed with a powerful mineral component. Rich layers of honeyed minerals (this wine is virtually dry) are focused by this wine's bright acidity. It is expressive, well-balanced, flavorful, and powerful. Drink it between 2003 and 2012. Production has doubled in the second harvest of this very high-elevation and correspondingly late-ripening vineyard—to 3,000 cases, a third of which will come to the U.S. A portion was harvested late in November and the rest well into December. Ripe peach, lemon and orange zest aromas lead to a fat and full but luscious and sufficiently bright palate. A suggestion of sweetness emphasizes the peach fruit and nicely sets off notes of brown spices. Long, slightly warm finish. 1 star.
