Note di degustazione
The golden-colored 1998 Riesling Smaragd Singerriedel displays a beautifully clear and elegant bouquet of ripe stone-fruit aromas along with caramel flavors. Rich, intense and powerful, but stunningly lean and straight, with a great concentration and elegance, this is a highly complex and fresh Riesling full of tension and minerals. Great finish. Dry and stimulatingly bitter. The acidity is terribly fresh and this is a perfect bottle. Great wine. Still young and with further aging potential.

This crossed the threshold of 14% alcohol, still leaving nine grams of sugar unfermented. A blast of peach and peach pit aromas is followed by a warm, smoky, peachy, oily-rich palate impression. This Singerriedel exhibits a harmony of fruit and minerals that the Hochrain lacks today. Intense peach kernel and dried apricot finish, with sharp radish-like accents. The sweetness seems to do a fine job of knitting together the material and supporting the fruit. The Singerriedel bunches were particularly sensitive and tricky to select this year, says Hirtzberger.
