Punteggio 92/100 · Da bere 2024-2040, Neal Martin, Feb 2023

The 2019 Bouscaut has an attractive nose with black olive and plenty of black fruit, though the oak needs a few more months to assimilate. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, taut and crisp, harmonious with an elegant finish. Bon vin . The dark horse of Pessac-Léognan this year? Tasted blind at the Southwold annual tasting.

Tasted blind. Mid gold. Interesting mix of spice and green fruits on the nose. Real weight on the palate – this is bordeaux! Obviously oak-aged but not oak-tinged. With a real tingle. A complex, rich (but not sweet) wine into which a lot of effort has been put. GV ? (JR)

A riper, modern-styled, beautifully made Pessac, the 2019 Château Bouscaut gives up lots of darker currant and cassis fruits as well as ample spice, chocolate, and classy oak. Rich, medium to full-bodied, and concentrated on the palate, this powerful 2019 needs to be forgotten for 3-4 years and should keep for two decades. The blend is 50% Merlot, 43% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 7% Malbec.

The 2019 Bouscaut wafts from the glass with a rich, ripe bouquet of jammy berries, burning embers and toasty new oak. Medium to full-bodied, broad and fleshy, with a fleshy core of fruit underpinned by a chassis of ripe, powdery tannin, this is a powerful, modern Pessac-Léognan in an impactful style.
