Punteggio 90/100 · Da bere 2017-2020, David Schildknecht, Vinous, Aug 2017

Featuring fruit from contract vineyards in limestone-rich Kallstadter Steinacker, along with estate fruit from Deidesheimer Paradiesgarten and Herrgottsacker, this was raised primarily in 500-liter barrels. Behind pungent scents of peppermint and roux comes ripe honeydew, a prominent attraction of the 2014 as well. This translates into a lush and luscious, coolingly herb-tinged palate impression and a quite succulently lingering finish not the least disturbed by wood. (I noticed that Von Winning’s importer is offering the 2013 “Sauvignon Blanc I” concurrent with this 2015, though my recent experience with the 2012 “500” Sauvignon – also reviewed in this report – made me skeptical concerning the aging potential of Von Winning Sauvignon, and certainly of that cuvée .)

Punteggio 90/100 · Da bere 2016-2022, Stephan Reinhardt, Wine Advocate, Aug 2016

The 2015 Sauvignon Blanc I has an intense citrus color and opens with a deep and concentrated nose of ripe tropical fruits, lemon peel and crushed stones. Full-Bodied, intense and concentrated on the palate, this a powerful, firmly structured and elegant wine. It has an aromatic finish and fine tannins. The 2015 is pretty round and generous, already accessible to drink. It is rather a Graves than a Loire character, but the lingering fruit aromas are Pfalz at its best.
