The 2010 Puligny-Montrachet Les Folatières 1er Cru has an intense and quite powerful bouquet, richer than the Chavy, with scents of dried honey, wax resin, orange peel and peach skin aromas all underpinned by fine mineralité and tension. The palate is very poised and focused, delivering impressive weight and tension and sappy green apple notes mixed with Nashi pear and spices. It just stumbles a little toward the finish, where I would have liked more terroir expression, but otherwise, excellent. Tasted at Sarah Marsh’s 2010 white burgundy tasting in London.

From a previous era of Leflaive. Bright greenish straw. Quite broad and biscuity on the nose. Solid and dense without quite enough lift. But lots of matter here. Just a bit stolid. And I suspect may always be so…? (JR)

(bottled in April of this year): Bright yellow. Aromas of pineapple, mirabelle and soft herbs, plus a whiff of silex-like minerality. Round, rich and voluminous, with intense mid-palate fruit and lovely perfume. Finishes long and aromatic, with superb mineral lift. Wonderfully palate-staining 2010 white Burgundy.

Another of the flashier wines in the lineup, the 2010 Puligny-Montrachet Folatières is quite intriguing. The fruit is quite bold and racy, something that is only accentuated over time as the wine opens up in the glass. At the same time, underlying veins of minerality begin to appear, providing the perfect foil to the wine's increasingly tropical tendencies. I imagine the richer, more exotic notes will only intensify over time, yet there is plenty of acidity to support the fruit. Eric Remy told me this was the first wine to finish its malolactic fermentation.
