Based on 10- to 50-year-old vines with very low yields in that year due to mildew, Muré's bone-dry 2021 Riesling Clos Saint Landelin comes from the bottom of the family's terraced cru where the deep clay soil provides good water storage capacity yet less iron than the plots planted with Syrah and Pinot at the top. The 2021 opens with a deep, fine and complex nose with bright and intense lemon, floral and herbal aromas. Dense, intense and muscular on the palate, this rich and almost sweetish yet refined and elegant Riesling reveals a balmy texture with still-bitter tannins and a long, complex and saline finish that indicates excellent aging potential. Keep it for at least another 3-5 years. 13.5% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted at the domaine in April 2024.

A great dry riesling with the racy and stony personality typical of this vintage, plus just a hint of toasty bottle-maturation character. Very concentrated with terrific chalky energy, this moves at a very brisk clip over the focused, medium-bodied palate. Very exciting finish in which pronounced minerality and melted butter character are deftly interwoven. Excellent aging potential if you can resist it now. From biodynamically grown grapes. Drink or hold.
Full bottle 1,351 g. The distinctive Clos St-Landelin, fully owned by the Muré family, covers an area of 12 hectares (29 acres) in Rouffach. It marks the southern end of the Grand Cru Vorbourg. Located on the valley exit, it is exposed to the south and benefits from a good amount of sunshine until late afternoon. The north and south-west winds help maintain vine health. The steep slopes of the Clos require terraces and the marl and limestone soil is particularly stony. The subsoil is composed of Oligocene conglomerates with oolitic limestone pebbles. The vines are close-planted to about 10,000 plants per hectare (4,000 plants per acre). Certified biodynamic. Explosive mature Riesling nose. Rich fruit with strong floral notes but overall it's bone dry. Lots of lime and texture. Crunchy texture means this wine has a long life ahead of it. Very superior, bone-dry Alsace Grand Cru Riesling. (JR)
The 2021 Riesling Clos Saint Landelin is, as Thomas Mure says, the Riesling with the lowest yields ever of 25 hl/ha. It is shy on the nose, sending brief signals of citrus only but of immense purity. The palate has the same clarity and the same reticence. Ripe Mirabelle juice and jelly are edged with a top note of clear blossom honey, glimpsed from some distance and not quite tangible yet, but undoubtedly there. The palate has a graceful structure with fine, almost crunchy phenolics and superfine, ripe, bright, buffered acidity that reminds of dried lemon peel. This is concentrated, bright, clear, luminous and balanced. The cool limestone soil caught enough sunlight to produce a wine of elegance and equanimity. The 2021 is serene and certain to last a long distance. (Bone-Dry)
