FINE+RARE, Apr 2021

The 2020 yields at Angludet are almost half of those in 2019; it’s unsurprising therefore that this is a concentrated wine, yet it also has surprising detail and freshness. The nose is quite exotic, with the scent of pepper and heady florals – geranium rather than violet. On the palate, it’s fine and long, a wave of vibrant, crunchy berry fruit. You can really feel the amphorae used here – 30% of the blend – lending the wine additional freshness and a lovely purity. The tannins are fine and chalky, cut by refined acidity. Elegant. The blend is 46% Cabernet Sauvignon, 42% Merlot and 12% Petit Verdot.

An impressive bottle with the soft waves of floral aromatics that bring you into the Margaux appellation, and the soft juicy brambly fruits of a great quality wine that doesn't need too long to wait before drinking. There is a tannic architecture here, but it is already supple at four years old. Lovely and great value estate owned by the Sichel family, winemaker Benjamin Sichel.

Lots of ripe red plums, cherries, damp herbs, iron, and sandalwood notes emerge from the 2020 Château D'Angludet, a ripe, plump, mouth-filling Margaux revealing some background chocolaty oak, plenty of mid-palate depth, and ripe, round tannins. I like it today but see no reason it shouldn't evolve for 15 years if well-stored.
