One of the gems in the retrospective was the 2010 Crozes Hermitage Clos des Grives. This full-bodied, rich, layered effort offers surprising complexity in its sage brush, black cherry, blackcurrants, peppery herbs and hints of crushed rock-laced aromatics. This flows to a seamless and concentrated 2010 that's drinking beautifully today, yet will keep through 2025.

Opaque ruby. A heady, complex bouquet of red and dark berry preserves, incense and cola, with subtle vanilla and black pepper accents emerging with air. On the palate, suave black raspberry and boysenberry flavors and a touch of candied violet, lifted by juicy acidity. Gentle tannins add grip to a long, spice- and smoke-accented finish that echoes the violet note.
Old vines. Polished. Very perfumed. Dry and still tight. (JR)
