2012 Fairview Estate Caldera

(Grenache, Shiraz and Mourvedre; all from the Fairview farm in Paarl except for a bit of Swartland Shiraz; very little new oak): Medium red. Sexy, very ripe aromas of chocolatey red fruits lifted by spices. Supple, pliant flavors of blackberry, blueberry and spices show a seductive sweetness nicely countered by surprising acid cut (the pH here is a very moderate 3.46). With refined tannins, this suave, energetic wine is approachable now but should gain in nuance for several years.
