(55% refosco, 30% cabernet franc and 15% merlot) Bright red. Intensely floral nose offers an array of red and dark berry fruits, rose and dried lavender. Vibrant, sharply focused redcurrant and raspberry flavors deliver seductively juicy flavor, with gentle tannins adding support. Impressively energetic and a great call for grilled red meats.

Steve Clifton fashions some innovative blends, such as the 2005 Mattia Proprietary Red, a blend of 55% Refosco, 30% Cabernet Franc, and 15% Merlot. Deep ruby-hued with aromas of earth, spice, and red fruits as well as rustic tannins, it is very good, although slightly disjointed and awkward.
