A blend of 65% Syrah and 35% Grenache aged 18 months in 80% new French oak, the 2011 One Hit Wonder is gorgeous. Perfumed and complex, with sweet blackberry, exotic spices, pepper, potpourri and incense all emerging from the glass, it flows onto the palate with a full-bodied, balanced feel that builds in richness and depth. While a ripe effort, it stays light, clean and elegant. Drink this beauty over the coming 7-8 years. Drink now-2021. Russell From continues to release a bevy of smoking wines under his Herman Story label. His wines never lack for fruit or texture, yet to me, always stay beautifully balanced and downright thrilling to drink. The 2011 One Hit Wonder, a Syrah/Grenache blend, is superb. All the elements come together beautifully in the glass. Rich, large-scaled and voluptuous, One Hit Wonder captures all the signatures of the house style, but with a little more polish than has sometimes been the case here. The sheer fruit and power of Syrah are nicely balanced by the aromatic complexity of Grenache. The appropriately named One Hit Wonder was made from Jespersen Vineyard in Edna Valley. Sadly, From lost his access to this site after just one vintage.
