Note di degustazione
(84% chardonnay from the Bien Nacido vineyard and 16% roussanne from the Stolpman vineyard; aged for 26 months in 60% French oak barrels--20% of them new--and 40% stainless steel tanks): Light, bright, slightly hazy gold. A complex, highly perfumed bouquet evokes musky pear skin, dried peach, anise and iodine, with a hint of honey in the background. Fleshy, broad and dry, offering pliant, mineral-tinged orchard and citrus fruit flavors that gain weight and spiciness in the glass. Shows a bracing mineral quality on the focused, clinging finish.

Moving to the Sanguis releases, the 2011 Out of Line checks in as a blend of 84% Chardonnay and 16% Roussanne (from Bien Nacido, Sebastiano and Stolpman vineyards) that had the Roussanne fermented partially on its skins, and the full blend aged 22 months in a combination of stainless steel, neutral and new oak. It's a gorgeous white that offers full-flavored notes of ripe apples, pear, brioche and white flowers. Full-bodied, seamless and beautifully textured, it has lots of richness, yet manages it well and is a joy to drink. Enjoy it over the coming 3-4 years or so. My tasting with Matthias Pippig was a big one, and the lineup is loaded with outstanding wines. Tel. (805) 845-0920; www.sanguiswine.com
