Punteggio 92/100 · Da bere 2014-2020, Jeb Dunnuck, Wine Advocate, Aug 2013

A southern Rhone-like blend of 43% Mourvedre, 38% Grenache and 19% Syrah, the 2010 Altas Vinas is a beauty. Dense and meaty, with the Mourvedre really showing, it delivers loads of smoked black fruits, licorice, roasted meats and mineral qualities on the nose. This flows to a full-bodied 2010 that has a rich, full texture, solid mid-palate depth and a focused, structured finish. As with the Grenache, it needs a handful of years to come together and will shine for upwards of a decade. Drink 2014-2020. These 2010s and 2011s from McPrice are straight up fantastic. Very classy and pure, they all benefitted from substantial air time and deserve another year or two in the cellar. In addition to delivering rock-star quality, they also represent superb values. This is another Paso Robles producer who has consistently produced outstanding wines that remain more than reasonably priced given their quality. They merit serious attention! Tel. The 2010 Altas Viñas, a Mourvedre/Grenache/Syrah blend, captures many of the characteristics that make the McPrice-Myers wines so appealing. Dark plums, smoke, chocolate, licorice and menthol meld together in a wine that impresses for its length, focus and pure drive.

(made from a blend of grenache, mourvedre and syrah): Inky ruby. Intense aromas and flavors of cassis, candied cherry and white pepper, with a sexy floral quality coming up with air. Juicy and refreshingly bitter, offering vibrant dark fruit flavors that put on weight with air. Shows very good energy on the sharply focused finish, which shows intense spiciness and strong thrust.
