2005 Michel Gahier Arbois Vin Jaune 620 ml.

The 2005 Arbois Vin Jaune started off a bit shy and perhaps funky; it had some reticent notes of nuts and honey, with some volatile aromas, perhaps with a bit of alcohol. The palate was another story: pungent flavors, compact, and balanced with great texture and acidity. It’s very tasty and makes you salivate. The nose needs time to develop aromas of nougat, almonds and hazelnuts, and shake off the oxidative and volatile character that was showing early on. The wine stays in your mouth forever. This is a Vin Jaune to age in bottle for a long time; it is very young and powerful now. It you’re going to pull the cork any time soon, make sure you decant it in advance. However, you're better off drinking the 2006 while waiting for this one to come around, as it has all the components, but it's not quite harmonious right now.
