(37% malbec, 25% cabernet sauvignon, 23% merlot, 10% petit verdot and 5% tannat): Good medium red-ruby. Inviting, high-toned aromas and flavors of cherry, currant, dark chocolate, mocha and glossy oak, with a suggestion of dried berries. Lush, broad and sweet, with lovely sappy depth and pliancy. Full and very ripe but not heavy. Finishes with suave tannins and excellent building length. A very attractive successor to the 2008 version, and balanced from the start.

The 2009 Gran Corte is a blend of Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot aged for 18 months in new Seguin Moreau oak. Those varieties work together well on the nose, which reveals elegant notes of raspberry, wild strawberry, cocoa and rosemary. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins. The fruit profile is red rather than black, with a smooth, harmonious texture and attractive notes of cedar and dried orange peel on the finish. This is another superb wine from Pulenta Estate. Three generations of the Pulenta family worked in the wine industry before Eduardo and Hugo Pulenta founded this estate in 2002. Much of their fruit comes from their own vineyards in the highly regarded Agrelo sub-region in Lujan de Cuyo. This is a source of sound, natural, well-crafted wines that offer impressive expressions of their varieties, in particular Cabernet Franc and Pinot Noir. Winemaker: Javier Lo Forte. 37% Malbec, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon, 23% Merlot, 10% Petit Verdot, 5% Tannat. Aged in oak 18 months. Bright crimson. Well balanced. The opposite of sweet. Lift. Something quite floral here. Long and sophisticated. (JR)
