Punteggio 92/100 · Da bere 2022-2024, Eric Guido, Vinous, Apr 2022

The 1998 Amarone della Valpolicella Classico TB is dark, dusty and earthy to the core, with notes of underbrush that blow off to reveal dried strawberries and wilted rose. This is so giving and opulent yet fresh in style, with a buzz of nervous acidity that adds a juicy feel to its medicinal cherries and sweet autumnal spices. A hint VA helps to propel the 1998 while adding dimension. This tapers off long with a lingering inner sweetness and leaves the palate refreshed. It’s irresistible today, but it appears that the 1998 may begin to decline in the coming years.

Punteggio 94/100 · Da bere 2002-2017, Robert Parker, Dec 2002

Even more stunning than the BG, the larger, more concentrated and voluminous 1998 Amarone TB possesses an intense bouquet offering a smorgasbord of aromas, including plums, figs, smoke, saddle leather, chocolate, and sweet cherry and berry fruit. Dense, with great concentration, sweet tannin, a multi-layered, opulent mouthfeel, and a 50+ second finish, it is about as provocative and riveting as an Amarone can be. Seemingly more forward and evolved than the 1997, which seems to have closed down over the last few months, the 1998 will drink well for 12-15 years.
