A new wine from Hundred Suns, the 2021 Pinot Noir Carson Phillips Vineyard comes from vines planted in 2000 in deep volcanic soils. It has explosive aromas of cranberry, blueberry, licorice, cinnamon, pipe tobacco and forest floor, continually evolving as it spends time in the glass. The palate is concentrated and powerful with layered flavors, velvety tannins, seamless freshness and ringing perfume on the long finish.

Broad, structured, and more grounded, the 2021 Pinot Noir Carson Phillips Vineyard pours a deep red hue and offers layers of spice, pine needles, black cherry, and dark iron-rich earth. Full-bodied, with a darker profile, ripe tannins, its fruit lasts long on the palate, with an undercurrent of fresh acidity. It’s drinking really well now and has the structure to drink well over the coming decade.
10% whole cluster. Nearing medium purple in colour. Aromatic, more liquorice spice than the other Pinot Noirs in this portfolio. A rounder nose with more rose-hip aromas and fresh, ripe, round fig on the palate. Richer and more glycerol mouthfeel than the rest of the portfolio, with softer acidity. Plummy and textural. (SCJ)
