Punteggio 94/100 · Da bere 2022-2045, William Kelley, Wine Advocate, Apr 2018

The 2015 Mazis-Chambertin Grand Cru reveals an attractive bouquet of red and black cherries, rose petal, wild berries and cassis, with comparatively little evidence of its time in new oak. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, rich and ample, with a lavish attack, supple tannins, juicy acids and excellent sap on the finish. My only reservation is that this seems to be surprisingly giving and structurally open-knit for a young Mazis-Chambertin, but in this vintage of wines for the long haul, that may be no bad thing.

Bright red-ruby. Very high-pitched, discreet scents of purple fruits, stone and spices; very pure and not at all gamey. Rather massive in the style of the year but extremely primary, even folded in on itself, with dark fruit and licorice flavors dominating. Finishes very ripe, with suave, well-supported tannins and suggestions of saline minerality and citrus bitterness. Not hard, but, as Pierre-Jean Roty suggested, it won't be hard to cellar and forget this wine.

Bright ruby-red. Pungent aromas of crushed wild strawberry, violet and licorice. Wonderfully sweet, dense and broad but with terrific freshness to leaven the wine's sucrosité , a characteristic of the 2015 vintage at this address. The black cherry, dark berry and licorice flavors are complicated by a note of cocoa powder on the extremely long, juicy finish.

The 2015 Mazis-Chambertin Grand Cru has a very pure but intense bouquet with layers of dark cherry, boysenberry and hints of cassis fruit, struck through with fine mineralité. The palate is medium-bodied with fine grip on the entry, very tightly wound and quite linear towards the finish. I think this is a barrel sample that had just curled up into a ball on the day, because there is plenty of energy here, but it will certainly need several years in bottle to really enter its stride.
