The 2021 Tsundere is a blend of 69% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Petit Verdot, 6% Syrah and 5% Grenache from the Denner, Fulldraw and Bien Nacido Vineyards. The nose begins with dusty, dried notes of tobacco, cedar and sour red fruits and fills in noticeably with time in the glass. The palate is plush and layered and texturally displays its 22 months in 90% new French oak, which, judging by the rest of the Torrin lineup, ultimately helps balance the wine. This treatment-driven style transitions to the finish, which wraps the wine on a notably more rounded, balanced and pleasant note than found elsewhere in the lineup.

Dusty black currants come together with sage, cedar shavings, violet pastille and cloves as the dark and brooding 2021 Tsundere smolders up from the glass. An elegant wave of ripe red fruits envelop the senses. Grippy tannins mount toward the close, with violet inner florals and hints of tobacco, while this Paso red blend remains silky and serene. The structured and hauntingly long finish leaves a sour cherry resonance that puckers the cheeks. Patience will be required but also rewarded. The Cabernet-dominated Tsundere was opened over twenty-four hours prior to tasting yet has maintained amazing freshness. Bury this deep in the cellar.
