2016 Va Piano Vineyards Syrah Portteus Vineyard Black Label

(vinified with 60% whole clusters and aged without any new oak): Bright medium ruby. Brooding, very reticent nose hints at dark berries and licorice pastille. Dense, concentrated, tactile and sweet but a bit chunky and unrefined; there's something a little heavy about this wine. Finishes with big tongue-dusting tannins and savory purple fruits.
