The 2004 Val de Flores Malbec was made in consultation with Michel Rolland. The grapes were sourced from a 50+ year old vineyard in the Vista Flores region of Mendoza. The wine was aged for 14 months in new French oak and bottled unfiltered. Opaque purple-colored, it offers an alluring perfume of pain grille, pencil lead, blueberry, and black cherry jam. This leads to a full-bodied, smoothly-textured, elegant Malbec with gobs of flavor, silky tannins concealed under a blanket of sweet fruit, and a long, pure finish. Built to last, it will unfurl over the next 6-8 years and drink well through 2030. Deep ruby-red. Perfumed aromas of black raspberry, truffle, roasted nuts, minerals and espresso, complicated by sexy oak tones. Very rich, smooth and seamless; has the lush, round texture of liquid velvet. Wonderfully dense, creamy, superripe wine with complex flavors of dark raspberry, graphite and chocolatey torrefaction. As with the 2003, this finishes with very fine tannins and impressive persistence. Val de Flores is a partnership between Frenchman Philippe Schell and Dany and Michel Rolland. The vineyard, largely malbec planted in the 1940s and 1950s, is adjacent to the Clos de los Siete property.
